ESHB 2261 was signed into law in spring of 2009. It promises:
- To revamp the way schools are funded to better predict actual costs
- To better track student data
- To review how teachers are compensated
- To broaden the definition of basic education to include access to college prep or career and technology curriculum (Core 24)
Implementation will roll out in stages with completion in 2018. Unfortunately, 2261 remains unfunded. While working groups are meeting, implementation won't start until the 2009 budget cuts to education are restored. These cuts primarily affected extended learning opportunities and class size reduction. Now we start the hard work of following through on the promise of ESHB 2261.
